So, at RISD, we don’t have finals week. We have finals month. Sorry I’ve been suuuper M.I.A. School calls! Though I’m dead tired, I’m really happy.

Speaking of finals, if you follow me on Instagram, you’ll see that I’ve been posting some works in progress and sketches. I’ve always said TTTS is a style and art blog, and now that I’m approaching the start of my third year (as a blogger and Illustration major), I’m ready to finally keep my promise! While this will all finally kick in during the summer, here is a bit of what I’ve been doing in class and at home as told my Instagram.

More of my sloppy work conditions, process images/sketches, and even finished works to come! For now, you can follow me on Instagram under the username @melaniepatterson_. Not everything gets forwarded to my twitter (which is where I pull these from) so be sure to follow in order to see more!

Heart Manicure

If any of you saw one of my Instagram photos yesterday, you saw that I couldn’t decide on how I wanted to do my nails. Well, I decided that I would do this lovely manicure that I’ve been seeing around for a little while. I had already broken a nail in a sad incident where I thought I didn’t have my school ID on me (turns out I did) and so it happened to break in the shape conducive for this manicure! I cut all the rest into shape and was almost tempted to paint them a plain cherry red. Instead I went with this cute combo!

So, on my nails I’m wearing Essie’s “Walk Down the Aisle” as a base. It’s a bit of a streaky jelly white but it looks perfect in three coats. The heart is American Apparel’s “Neon Red” which is one of my current favorites in my collection right now. It’s a really pretty nearly pink shade and it’s SO bright but not overbearing. I’ll swatch it on its own soon! (I meant to last week, but let me tell you…Seche Vite + hot water equals TONS of shrinkage and wrinkles! Beware!)

To do this, all I did was paint the base and then paint the heart on with one of my small paint brushes. I think it was a 6- or 8-sized round. It was a little too large, but it’s the smallest I had. I also hope I didn’t ruin it, because it’s what I use the most for my gouache paintings! Haha.

Sorry updates have been slow! I’m trying to get so much work in as the end of the semester is approaching, as well as my sister’s wedding. So much to do!!

Post image for Baroque Printed Bodysuit + Denim circle skirt

This outfit that I wore today was an instant love! I’m absolutely crazy about this bodysuit by MotelRocks. They’re quickly becoming one of my favorite brands. I have only a handful of their pieces, but I know I need more! This print basically chose me. Hahaha.

Also, here I’m wearing shoes that I realized you’ve seen before but I’ve never previously styled on here. I wasn’t planning on wearing them this morning, but it just sort of happened. They had hurt horribly the first night (like blisters EVERYWHERE hurt) but now they’re perfectly broken in. Lovelovelove <3

Wearing: MotelRocks ‘Hillary’ bodysuit (in leopard print), American Apparel denim circle skirt and metallic cropped cardigan (c/o), and Jeffrey Campbell ‘Audrey 2‘ wedges (they just came out in turquoise suede!).

The outfit that I wore on Saturday! It was absolutely freezing out, as the wind was tunneling between the buildings. But, I decided that since I had time, I might as well take photos :) Cropped shirts + high waists are so perfect together <3

Wearing: American Apparel crop top (c/o) and disco pants, Jeffrey Campbell ‘Tardy‘ boots.

I hope you all had a lovely Easter! :) Just a quick painting that I did for you all. I fall more and more in love with gouache each day, haha.
